Sugar. The American Heart Association (AHA) recommends limiting added sugars to 6% of your daily calories, or no more than 100 calories for women and 150 calories for men. This is equivalent to about 6 teaspoons of sugar for women and 9 teaspoons for men. The Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommend that children under 2 avoid added sugars, and that people 2 and older keep added sugars to less than 10% of their daily calories.
