| Hello. US President Donald Trump has met Syria's interim leader in Saudi Arabia. My colleagues have the latest. Environment correspondent Navin Singh Khadka reports on the hazy conditions in Nepal that increasingly conceal views of the mighty Himalayas. And finally, a thermal camera films a dramatic volcanic eruption in the Philippines. | |

TOP OF THE AGENDA | Trump urges Syria to normalise Israel ties |

| | The Saudi Crown Prince attended the meeting, which also saw Turkey's leader joining remotely. Credit: X/Karoline Leavitt | President Trump has presented Syria's interim leader Ahmed al-Sharaa with five demands during their brief meeting in Riyadh. White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt said that these included normalising relations with Israel and action on terror groups. As Middle East correspondent Sebastian Usher writes, the meeting boosts al-Sharaa's stance on the world stage as a leader representing Syria's future, despite his jihadist past. US sanctions on Syria had been in place for 46 years, before Trump announced his intention to lift them yesterday. Trump has also reiterated his desire for a deal with Iran, even though his remarks about “corruption” of the country's leadership have angered Tehran. |

| BEYOND THE HEADLINES | It's getting harder to see the Himalayas |
|
| | | Pioneering female trekking guide Lucky Chhetri says business is down because of the hazy conditions. Credit: Lucky Chhetri | Growing up in Nepal, Navin Singh Khadka fondly remembers the dramatic views of the Himalayas enjoyed on clear days in the spring and autumn months. But increasingly air pollution is causing longer-lasting hazy conditions and affecting visibility, as well as tourism revenue and public health. |

And finally... in the Philippines | A volcano on the Philippine island of Negros has erupted, spewing ash 3km (1.8 miles) in to the air. The eruption was caught on a thermal camera, showing debris falling. Another nearby camera shows the ominous glow of the lava. Take a look. | |
