Nominees announced for Second District Court vacancy
The Second District Judicial Nominating Commission has selected nominees for a vacancy on the Second District Court. The vacancy results from the appointment of Judge Rita Cornish to the Business and Chancery Court on Aug. 21, 2024.
The nominees for the vacancy are: Keith Backman; Catherine Conklin; Joel Ferre; Matthew Hansen; and Blake Hills.

Moore re-elected to serve as House GOP conference vice chair

Sutherland launches Work & Opportunity Initiative with new research
Sutherland Institute launched its Work & Opportunity Initiative today with an accompanying research report. The primary goal of the Work & Opportunity Initiative is to identify and address any barriers to upward mobility experienced by Utah families, especially those striving to escape poverty.
The paper includes a framework of policy recommendations, such as: increasing state-level flexibility from the federal government to explore innovative alternative approaches to safety net reform, providing enhanced financial planning tools for safety net participants, and conducting additional study of social safety net recidivism. Decorated violinist and concertmaster to celebrate 20th anniversary conducting iconic Vivaldi by Candlelight concert
Now in its 42nd year, the Vivaldi by Candlelight concert series is set to captivate Utahns with an exquisite showcase of pieces by Italian composer Antonio Vivaldi and other Baroque Era masters. Held in support of Utah Global Diplomacyâs mission to promote respect and understanding between the people of Utah and the global community, this performance will celebrate the 20th anniversary of acclaimed violinist and former Utah Symphony associate concertmaster Gerald Elias conducting the chamber orchestra.
