Trump's election lies are already destabilizing our democracy. Urge Facebook and Twitter to stop the spread of election disinformation.
Friend,
This morning Jack Dorsey and Mark Zuckerberg are testifying before a Senate committee where the Republican members are continuing to claim that Facebook and Twitter are biased against conservatives. This is happening mere days after Trump took to Twitter and Facebook to falsely declare he had won the election and urged the D.C. police to “not hold back” against counter-protesters as thousands of Proud Boys and other white supremacists flocked to the nation’s capital on Saturday.
Despite a total lack of evidence, Trump and his enablers are using platforms like Facebook and Twitter to rally his white-supremacist base around false claims that Democrats and people of color stole the election from them. People’s lives are on the line. Tell Facebook and Twitter: Stop the spread of election lies on your platforms.
Although the companies made a flurry of policy changes aimed at protecting the integrity of the election, Donald Trump’s reach on social media is massive and the platforms aren’t doing enough to curb his lies.
Facebook has added weak content warnings and is still allowing his messages to be shared. And as Trump continues to tweet false claims, his repeated violations are still reaching hundreds of thousands of people. This content is going viral and gives bad actors ample opportunities to weaponize narratives and spread disinformation.
Jack Dorsey and Mark Zuckerberg have a responsibility to stop lies about the 2020 election. Our democracy hangs in the balance.
Thanks for all that you do—

P.S. Facebook's and Twitter’s failure to stop the spread of disinformation about the election is a threat to our safety and our democracy. We must demand Facebook and Twitter remove lies about the 2020 election and get a handle on their disinformation crises. |
