Credit: EPA | President Trump's announcements on Monday of a plan to have Nato allies pay for US-made weapons to Ukraine and a 50-day deadline for Russia to agree to a ceasefire or face tariffs have received some criticism. As Charlotte Gallagher reports from Kyiv, war-weary Ukrainians worry about how many more civilians might die in that period. In the US, it's some of Trump's most fervent supporters - members of his Maga movement - who are not buying the weapons deal. As Bernd Debusmann Jr explains, they see it as a betrayal of Trump's promise to end US involvement in foreign wars. |

| Small town gripped by murder trial | | One of Australia's smallest courtrooms hosted the country's biggest trial in recent history. Credit: Getty Images | From Our Own Correspondent: Last week, the jury in the murder trial of Erin Patterson reached a verdict. The Australian woman was found guilty of murdering three of her relatives and attempting to kill another by cooking a meal laced with toxic mushrooms. The 10-week trial thrust the small town of Morwell into the international spotlight. |

| | | For the entirety of the trial, every Monday, the judge and the lawyers from both prosecution and defence would make their way from Melbourne to Morwell to spend the week in the Latrobe Valley courthouse. Every Friday lunchtime, the court would adjourn and the legal teams would all return to their lives in the big city.
What that meant was the weekdays were packed full of temporary residents in Morwell. It created something of a temporary community here - not just journalists covering the case but also court-watchers, lawyers and security staff at the court. Queues were common, small talk on the latest activities in court inevitable - everyone got to know each other.
