| Hey Folks, | I hope your necks are OK after that whiplash we experienced today. 🎢 | Believe it or not, the markets were actually UP at the opening bell, before tariff news sent the major indexes tumbling (which caught me off guard, again… grrrr). | By 3:00, Trump said flat out that, “Tariffs — 25% on Canada, and 25% on Mexico — and that will start tomorrow.” | Investors had held out hope that the negotiations between us and our neighbors would bear fruit, but Trump dashed that this afternoon. | If you consider how Trump has handled most of his negotiations thus far, he likes to play the bad cop while his subordinates play the good cop… | So while Trump is talking tough, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick told CNN this morning that “[Trump] knows they have done a good job on the border, they haven’t done enough on fentanyl, let’s see how the president weighs that today.” | According to this article, “Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told Bloomberg TV on Friday that Mexico made a ‘very interesting proposal’ to match the U.S. on tariffs for imports from China.” | President Trump is the ultimate wildcard, so who knows how things will shake out, but it wouldn’t surprise me if we see some last-minute backpedaling or a token deal so Trump can say he won… | Clearly, his deputies are already signaling a potential softening. | What I’m interested in are trade ideas that have a good chance tomorrow regardless of what the market does. | And for that, I’m looking to stocks that actually gained today despite the Nasdaq sinking 2.6% and the S&P 500 posting its worst day since December. | I’ve found one small cap that’s especially promising.
