Trump takes executive action on pandemic relief

President Donald Trump has issued executive orders that partially restore enhanced unemployment benefits, that temporarily halt collection of payroll taxes, that further defer student-loan payments and that discourage eviction from federally funded housing. The order on unemployment benefits cuts the weekly payment to $400 from $600 and requires states to cover 25% of the cost.

An iHire survey found 77.1% of hiring managers are struggling to find qualified talent in 2020, though passive hiring and job seeking have increased since 2019 from 9.8% to 13.9% and 11.1% to 17.4%, respectively. In terms of job ads, the top piece of information sought by candidates was salary range (48.9%), with remote-work options at the bottom of the list at only 2.4%.

Nearly nine of 10 HR leaders polled by Gartner said their organizations have been ineffective with their diversity efforts, and Gartner says HR practices need a "reset" on inclusion. Those changes begin with diversity hiring, but also include building ongoing trust with current employees and restructuring performance evaluations to accommodate diverse talent.
