Hi John, This school year, I've been heavily invested as a volunteer at my kids' school, and as the year comes to a close, I can feel my time opening up in new ways. ✨ One way is to have more time to create. Hooray! Keeping an art journal has long been part of my practice. The process I'm sharing today is simple, fun, mindful, and intuitive. And anyone can do it. Kids too! For this assignment, you'll open an art journal and draw a frame on each page. If you're working as a pair (like parent and child), you could each make a frame and work side-by-side. That's always fun! Next, put your pen down and let it wander all over the page. You'll draw one single line. Don't lift your pen. In the next step we'll add paint, so use a permanent marker like Sharpie. Allow your pen to cross over the frame lines. Fill in the interior shapes with color. For colors, you could choose a tight palette like warm colors or cool colors, use all the colors, or paint in shades of grey. This is up to you! See how you're feeling about it and follow your intuition. To simplify brush cleaning, work with one color at a time. If you're not interested in painting or using watercolors, you can replace that with oil pastels, crayons, markers, etc. Keep going until all the shapes inside the frames are filled. Take a moment to admire your work and pat yourself on the back for creating art today.
