The Trump administration and Senate leaders struck a deal early Wednesday morning on a $2 trillion stimulus package aimed at combating the economic damage from the coronavirus pandemic. The deal includes $250 billion for direct payments to individuals and families, $350 billion in small-business loans, $250 billion for unemployment benefits and $500 billion in loans for distressed organizations.

Emergency leave protections under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act have left small employers "despondent" about implementing the new rules by the April 2 deadline, according to Littler Mendelson shareholder Jeff Nowak. Employers will need to pay for emergency paid family leave and sick leave on their own, but will be eligible for tax credits, and some employers must also provide up to 12 weeks of job-protected leave when employees are not able to work due to child care obligations related to the coronavirus pandemic.
Two-year colleges offer a promise of open access, social mobility and confidence in all students' abilities to succeed, writes Chad Dull, vice president of academic affairs at Minnesota State College Southeast.
