“To be honest, I didn’t know who Drake was”

Until last month, Drake was taking an extended hiatus from music to focus on his health. Then came news of a brand new EP, Scary Hours 3. In a teaser video, Drake drives across the city, arrives at Roy Thomson Hall and sits down for a private concert performed by none other than the TSO. “There was a lot of mystery around the project,” says Gustavo Gimeno, the TSO’s musical director and possibly the only person in the city who hadn’t heard of Drake before this latest collab. He tells us about it here.

The Influentials

Matty Matheson came in at No. 5 in our ranking of the most influential Torontonians of 2023. The city’s coolest chef now has six hotspots to his name, including Rizzo’s House of Parm, which opened in Crystal Beach last November, and Toronto fave Prime Seafood Palace. But it’s his non-restaurant ventures that had everyone buzzing this year. He starred in season two of The Bear, appeared in a Super Bowl ad, and much more.
