Port reports best calendar year in its history

The S.C. Ports Authority said it handled 2.44 million TEUs in 2019, a 5% year-over-year increase and the highest volume in port history. Last month, the port handled 187,882 TEUs at the Wando Welch and North Charleston container terminals.

Allegiant to launch Charleston-Louisville flights

Allegiant Air will begin twice-weekly direct flights between Charleston International Airport and Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport in May, part of the company’s largest expansion in its history. Allegiant began serving Charleston in 2018.

Darwin Simpson to return to Patriots Point board

Veteran and businessman Darwin H. Simpson has been appointed to serve on the Patriots Point Development Authority Board. This is Simpson’s second time serving on the board. Simpson retired as president and CEO of a global chemical distribution company, and received several awards for service in the Army National Guard.
