A Prairie Home Companion
American Revival

May 2, 2022

Join us live at Red Rocks
for A Prairie Home Companion

Join us for a full-fledged reunion of A Prairie Home Companion. It’s been over two years since the full cast has been on stage together, so it’s time to reunite and celebrate our show and create some new memories! Red Rocks is one of the Seven Wonders of Colorado. Actually, it was once listed as one of the Seven Wonders of the World! Nestled in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains just west of Denver, it’s a natural amphitheater where every rock star wants to perform. So why not stage A Prairie Home Companion’s American Revival from the Red Rocks stage? Garrison Keillor will be joined by The Royal Academy of Radio Actors, featuring Sue Scott, Tim Russell, and Fred Newman — plus the Guy’s All-Star Shoe Band, led by Richard Dworsky performing with Pat Donohue, Stuart Duncan, and Gary Raynor. And special guest performers include country superstar Brad Paisley, Southern bluesman Elvin Bishop and his Big Fun Trio, opera star Ellie Dehn, and vocalist Heather Masse.

Garrison says, “We’ve heard enough about despair, let’s take a night in the Colorado mountains to have a big time with Brad Paisley, Elvin Bishop, Ellie Dehn, the Guy’s All-Star Shoe Band, Heather Masse, and the Host Himself who is very happy to be turning 80.”  It’s time to get together again with friends and rejoice in a bit of comedy, stories, and song! Join us on May 2, 2022, at Red Rocks for an unforgettable evening that can only be experienced in person!

Just one more morning of an old man

I’m confused about the Federalist Society and who originated originalism and the fact that the Founding Fathers were deaf and needed signers to work out the Constitution, women standing in the front of those bewigged guys and waggling their hands (“We the people of the United States”) and getting some words wrong (“in order to form a more perfect Onion”) and in all this waving of bare arms (which they referred to as the “exercise” of free speech) the bare arms got confused with rifles, and I’m sorry but it strikes me as backwardness, the Founders having had no conception of cordless phones or the germ theory of disease or credit cards — they didn’t even know about baseball. James Madison didn’t know a curve from a slider.

More about this week’s featured guests
It was hard miss him: Leon Redbone, in the dark glasses, the hat — the dapper gent with the great gravelly voice and one-of-a-kind interpretations of classic American song. After he first gained public attention playing in Toronto folk clubs in the 1970s, he recorded a stack of albums, including Live (October 26, 1992: The Olympia Theater, Paris France) and Any Time — both on Rounder Records.
“Sweet Mama Hurry Home or I’ll Be Gone” >>>

Growing up in rural Maine, Heather Masse sang hymns and folk songs around home with her family. The New England Conservatory of Music alum garnered legions of fans as one-third of the Juno Award-winning Canadian trio The Wailin’ Jennys. Watch for Heather as Garrison’s duet partner for the A Prairie Home Companion American Revival show at Red Rocks.
“I Don’t Wanna Wake Up Today” >>>

Actress/comedian Erica Rhodes was only 10 years old when she first appeared on A Prairie Home Companion decades ago. Since then, she has starred movies, had roles on TV, and created “Upstairs Girls,” her popular Web series. These days, you might catch Erica spinning her brand of stand-up comedy at clubs nationwide.
