TROPICAL TURBULENCE: After an unusually calm August, hurricane analysts are suddenly monitoring four tropical weather disturbances in the Atlantic basin: Hurricane Fiona, Tropical Storm Gaston, a tropical wave just off the west coast of Africa and, more worrisome, a tropical wave that threatens to enter the Caribbean Sea. MAXIMUM PENALTY: Anger and remorse filled the courtroom Tuesday at the sentencing of Wendell Lachney, 58, the drunken driver who killed 9-year-old Abby Douglas on Belle Chasse Highway near Gretna. “You are a disgrace,” the girl’s grandmother said in a statement that a prosecutor said. “I’m not asking for forgiveness; I don't deserve it,” Lachney said. “But I am deeply sorry for my actions." After taking it all in, the judge gave Lachney the maximum sentence. THE COLLAPSE: In the span of just 10 offensive snaps, the New Orleans Saints committed four turnovers that took them from driving for the go-ahead score against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday to trailing by three scores.
