Jambo John!
In twenty years of globetrotting, speaking across 34 countries, one of the single most life-changing moments for me came when I was on my Infinite Possibilities book signing tour that had just reached Portland, Oregon.
An hour before heading over to the Bagdad Theatre, I went for a walk to shake off some pre-event jitters. In the twilight, I came across a homeless woman, sitting cross-legged on the sidewalk, head down in a book, reading by streetlight. š
She didnāt look up (phew!) so I kept on walkingā¦ haunted by Kahlil Gibranās words in The Prophet, āIt is well to give when asked, but it is better to give unaskedā¦ā I wrestled with what to do for two blocksā¦ before going back to offer her the only bill I had, a $20.
She lit up, yet to my surprise, I saw in her eyes that this homeless woman was actually a homeless girl, no more than 18. Speechless, I feigned a smile and walked away, while the voice in my head shouted out, as if pleading:
āYou donāt have to live like this! You are powerful! You have options!" ā¤ļøš§”š
Now, to each their own, and perhaps her choices made her happier than I will ever know for myself, but I couldnāt help thinking:
āShe hasnāt yet been reached, she doesnāt know of lifeās beauty and our powerā¦ā
In my naiveties, I thought that with the recent widespread release of The Secret, surely everyone was wising up. However, this wake-up call with the streetlight-reader proved otherwise. I suddenly realized that most people have not been reachedā¦ which is just as true today.
Today, 12 years later, there are thousands of Certified Infinite Possibilities Trainers (IPPIES!) in 42 countriesā¦ delivering this program (available in 6 languages) to friends and family, in jails and halfway houses, and some are taking it to more affluent audiences for a fee (royalty free for life). Others have used the material to start or augment life coaching careers. Every one of us has found that āWe teach best what we most need to learn!ā (Richard Bach, Illusions)
The joy of serving others, John, is the real deal. As Gibran continues in that same passage, āAnd to the open-handed the search for one who shall receive is joy greater than giving.ā Juicier still, he wraps up that passage, āYou often say, āI would give, but only to the deserving.ā The trees in your orchard say not so, nor the flocks in your pasture.ā
Iāve just decided to host my first ever FREE Workshop about The Joy of Serving Others, along with some of my trainers, to help others like you,
John, decide if they too might like to become an IPPIE,
joining us as we reach those who have not yet been reached. āØ
Happy February!
