April 12, 2022 The final two men charged with bombing a Bloomington mosque in 2017 have learned their fate, as they were each sentenced to more than a decade in prison today. Michael McWhorter and Joe Morris had faced 35-year sentences, but McWhorter received just under 16 years and Morris received about 14 years in prison. Imam Mohamed Omar was in Dar Al Farooq Islamic Center when the bomb went off — and he stood outside the federal courthouse today, after signing a letter to Judge Donovan Frank in support of a lighter sentence. "We are a peaceful part of the fabric of this country and this is the one message we have standing here before you. Just to make sure — even though we hurt, we don’t want our values to be hidden, and forgiveness, compassion is part of our values," Omar said.
