#1 Twitter Announces New Streaming Programming Lineup
Twitter announced that it has signed deals to create live streaming content in the sports, news and entertainment genres at its first-ever NewFront presentation in New York Monday. Partners include the WNBA, PGA Tour, Major League Baseball Advanced Media, The Players Tribune, BuzzFeed News, Cheddar, Live Nation, IMG Fashion and Propagate.
WHY THIS MATTERS: Twitter is counting on adding live video to its traditional messaging content to attract users and advertisers. The company is attempting to reposition itself as a venue for professionally-produced live video content and tap into advertising budgets typically reserved for TV.

#2 Disney Unveils Digital Network
The Walt Disney Co. unveiled the Disney Digital Network during its NewFront presentation today. The company explained that the Disney Digital Network will bring together several Disney-owned sites to help advertisers reach millennial and generation Z audiences.
WHY THIS MATTERS: Disney says the Disney Digital Network reaches more than one billion followers, has more than 300 social media channels and content that ranges from classic Disney characters to material from Maker Studios creators and influencers. Advertisers on the network can utilize Disney Co/Op, an in-house branded content service that brings together Disney digital storytellers with advertisers seeking custom campaigns.

#3 Charter Loses 100,000 Pay TV Subs in Q1
In its first-quarter earnings report, released earlier today, Charter revealed that it lost 100,000 residential video subscribers in the quarter. The company now has 16.7 million subscribers. In the first quarter of last year, the company added 24,000 pay TV subs on a pro forma basis.
WHY THIS MATTERS: Most of those losses came from legacy Time Warner Cable systems, and Charter CEO Tom Rutledge pointed out in an earnings call that legacy Charter systems would have added pay TV customers if the integrated properties were not included.

Quote Of The Day

My belief is that OTT video will take share away from pay-TV. So satellite and cable will be smaller five years from now than they are today. You're already seeing that reduction [in satellite] and phone companies, you've seen reductions really for the last couple of years.
Dish Network founder and CEO Charlie Ergen
