“That ’70s Show” star Danny Masterson claimed he was arrested and charged on multiple counts of rape by police and prosecutors who are biased against his church. The Oscar-winning filmmaker Paul Haggis, also charged with rape, contends he was set up by members of a church he has publicly renounced.

In both cases, the church in question is the Church of Scientology, which now looms large over the Hollywood figures’ trials.
