OUR DROWNING COAST: In less than two generations, water levels along Louisiana’s coast are expected to rise 1½ to 2 feet, federal officials say in a new report that lays bare the havoc global warming will wreak along the country's seashores.
FALSE START: There was something suspicious about the killing of a struggling drug addict Wednesday in Marrero, his relatives say. Jefferson Parish sheriff's deputies, answering a 911 call about an undisclosed matter, said they found Daniel Vallee, 34, sitting in an SUV, ordered him out and, when he instead started the engine, shot him dead. "None of this is sitting right with me," Vallee's aunt said.
FOR PETE'S SAKE: From almost the moment that Sean Payton resigned as head coach of the New Orleans Saints, Pete Carmichael's profile shrank. The team's offensive coordinator didn't interview for the top job and, in fact, was said to be moving into a lesser position. That changed Wednesday, however, with word that Carmichael will indeed remain as offensive coordinator under new head coach Dennis Allen.
