BY DOUG GRAHAM | Staff writer After accusations emerged in connection with the narcotics division of the Baton Rouge Police Department, police Chief Murphy Paul announced his agency was conducting a probe into the disgraced division. The unit was effectively cut in half. It was later disbanded entirely. But more than two years later, little has emerged about the findings of that investigation.
In a move that hospital officials say will provide patients with options for new cancer treatments close to home, Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center has expanded its research program to include phase 1 clinical trials. Theater Baton Rouge needs to raise $100,000 in the next 60 days or it risks closing its doors. Beth Bordelon, board president for the 78-year-old community theater, says the situation is dire but not hopeless. "We are determined to get through this," she said. She said the cost of everything from set materials to electricity has increased since the COVID pandemic, which has affected the theater's budget. |
