Letter from the Editor

Last week I was working with the interns and going over a PowerPoint on managing insulin dosing. I have always thought that pharmacists should be the managers for insulin dosing, and so they get a full course on basal bolus, mixed insulins, calculating carb ratios and the like.

We were discussing the use of CGM and insulin pumps and I was sharing the success my wife was having with the new Tandem Control-IQ software. I had just shared that in the last 7 days she was in target range 99% of the time. One of my interns, Mit Suthar, PharmD. Candidate, LECOM School of Pharmacy, asked me how long she had been diagnosed and if that made a difference. I explained how she was diagnosed and asked him to see what he could find out, and he came back to me with this week’s special feature, Type 1 Diabetes is 2 Distinct Conditions Defined by Age at Diagnosis.
