The US Government Sold Nearly 10,000 Silk Road Bitcoin

The US government has sold almost 10,000 bitcoin confiscated from the Silk Road case in 2013 for over $215 million. There are still about 41,490 bitcoin left to be sold, which the government plans to sell in four more batches throughout the year.

Previously, the government has auctioned bitcoin, but this time they opted for open market sales.

The Silk Road was a darknet marketplace used to sell drugs, among other things, and its founder, Ross Ulbricht, was convicted in 2015 and sentenced to life in prison. Ulbricht now seeks clemency for his unfair sentence.

With RGB, The Bitcoin Lightning Network Can Now Transfer Altcoin Assets

The RGB protocol enables the allocation of altcoins to Bitcoin UTXOs, which in turn enables stablecoin transfers on the Lightning Network.

This is significant, according to author Federico Tenga, as stablecoins like USDT are already widely used for digital payments and remittances, especially in developing countries where the legacy financial infrastructure is not always functional and the local currencies are volatile.

Once there are stablecoins and other assets on the Lightning Network, it becomes possible to have decentralized exchange functionalities directly over Lightning, with two nodes being able to atomically swap bitcoin against other assets at the same speed and cost of a Lightning payment, without counterparty risks.

The Bitcoin Beach Wallet has been renamed to Blink with changes aimed at making the app global.

The wallet plans to allow any user to set their local currency in Q2 2023 and features in-app Bitcoin education.

Blink also has merchant features that make it easy and flexible for businesses to receive payments over Lightning and on-chain, including LN address, a Lightning cash register, and a printable pay code.

The team's vision for Blink is for it to be available in every language where there's a Bitcoin community project. The name change reflects the wallet's expansion beyond its original intended purpose and its desire to be used by Bitcoin communities across the world.
