U.S. job growth still red-hot but showing some signs of cooling
A new report released by the U.S. Labor Department on Friday shows employment growth continues to outpace expectations but is displaying signs of slowing down. News of the growing job market cooling down means the Fed's efforts to curb record inflation are working.
October's job market numbers:
Employment increased by 261,000 positions.
Unemployment rose to 3.7%.
Wages rose 0.4%.
Despite the job market slowing down, the Fed announced a 0.75% interest rate increase on Wednesday.
The Jackson Hole News and Guide reported that the city of Jackson, Wyoming, has been sending some of its homeless to Salt Lake City. It's unclear how many have been sent, but Lt. Russ Ruschill of the Jackson Police Department told the News and Guide that he knows law enforcement officials have purchased bus tickets for at least 300 individuals. However, there is no official record of the purchases.
“I’m frustrated, but sadly not surprised,” Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall told the Deseret News on Friday morning. “This is just another bit of evidence to an overarching theme that we’ve known in Salt Lake City for years.”

The new-look BYU women's basketball team plays its first game of the season on Tuesday against Colorado State. It will be head coach Amber Whiting's first game as the coach of the Cougars, and the team will also be without some key players, 86% of last season's offense to be exact, that transferred or graduated.
In their last season before moving to the Big 12, the Cougars are looking to return to the NCAA Tournament.
“That’s definitely one of our goals. We definitely have the talent and the coaching ability to get there,” forward Lauren Gustin said. “We’ve just got to play together. We’re a whole different team than last year, but we’re going to be a good team.”
