Have you heard the term “snowplow parents?” They’re the moms and dads who swoop in and fix everything before their sons and daughters even know there’s an obstacle ahead. But studies show young people with overly-involved parents deal with anxiety and depression more than those who handle adversity on their own. On today’s show I spoke with a parenting expert and a psychologist about this parenting style and how to build a healthy relationship with our kids as they enter adulthood. You can join a conversation on the topic in our parenting Facebook group. Tune in tomorrow when I’ll be talking with NPR’s Noel King about how journalists should cover difficult topics.
