LIVE WEBINAR: WORLD CHILDREN'S DAY

Suzanne de Laval and Heba Safey Eldeen, co-directors of the UIA Work Programme Architecture & Children are hosting a webinar on 20 November at from 13:00 -15:00 (GMT) to celebrate United Nations’ World’s Children Day. The programme will include discussion of children and adolescents in Costa Rica, street children in Tunisia, children and urban planning in Egypt, hospitalised children in Greece and a Swedish view of children’s participation in the planning process.

UIA AFFORDABLE HOUSING WEBINAR : 15 DECEMBER 

In preparation for the upcoming 2022 UIA Forum on Affordable Housing, set to take place in Madrid, Spain from 17-20 May, the UIA is hosting a webinar on housing. Moderated by Martha Thorne, with an opening addresses by UIA President José Luis Cortés and Maimunah Mohd Sharif, Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN‐Habitat). The webinar will take place on 15 December at 14:00 (Paris time).

2023 UIA WORLD CONGRESS: CALL FOR CONTRIBUTIONS

The UIA 2023 World Congress will be held in Copenhagen, Denmark from 2 to 6 July 2023 with the theme, ‘Sustainable Futures – Leave No One Behind’.  The organising committee of Copenhagen 2023 (CPH) and Copenhagen Architecture Festival (CAFx) are calling for architects, designers, urbanists and planners around the world to create written or visual manifestos addressing the role architects and urban planners can play in the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). UIA Member sections are invited to recommend candidates before the 12 April 2022 deadline.

BARBARA CAPPOCHIN INTERNATIONAL PRIZE, 10TH EDITION  

Registration opened on 26 October for the 10th edition of the Barbara Cappochin International Architecture Prize, organised by the Barbara Cappochin Foundation and the Italian Order of Architects, Planners, Landscapers and Conservationists of the Province of Padua. Participation in the 2021-2022 edition of the "Barbara Cappochin International Prize" is open to works, completed between 1 January 2018 and 31 January 2022, in five (5) categories: 1) Public and/or private residential architecture, 2) Commercial, executive, mixed architecture, 3) Public architecture, 4) Landscape architecture, 5) Urban Planning. The registration deadline is 31 January 2022.

LUXEMBOURG: NEW PRESIDENT

Michelle Friederici is the newly elected president of the Order of Architects and Consulting Engineers (OAI) of Luxembourg following the OAI’s General Assembly on 28 October. Graduate of the Technische Universität Kaiserslautern and managing partner at FG ARCHITECTES in Dudelange, she is a member of the Order since 2019 and is active in the OAI’s continuing education programmes, in communal relations and sustainable construction. She succeeds Jos Dell in the position.

COLOMBIA: 37TH SCA CONGRESS

The 37th Congress of Architecture and Urbanism of the Sociedad Colombiana de Arquitectos (SCA) will take place virtually from 15 to 18 November, convening professionals and institutions around debate and discussion of international trends in architecture, urbanisma and policymaking and implementation in Colombia.

UIA President José Luis Cortés will receive the SCA Gold Medal at a physical ceremony on 19 November at the Hotel Grand Hyatt in Bogota.

ACE: NEW PRESIDENT

On 29 October 2021, the Architects’ Council of Europe (ACE) elected Ruth Schagemann (BAK - Germany) President for a two-year term beginning 1 January 2022. She succeeds Georg Pendl in the position.

The ACE Executive Board 2022-2023 also includes new members including Fulgencio Aviles (Spain), Carl Bäckstrand (Sweden), Borys Czarakcziew (Poland), Daniel Fügenschuh (Austria), UIA Region I Deputy Council member Diego Zoppi (Italy), Christos Christodoulou (Cyprus), Paul Jeppesen (Denmark), Dubravko Bacic (Croatia), Selma Harrington (Ireland) and UIA Region II Council member Ruta Leitenaite (Lithuania).

FPAA: ENCOUNTERS ON HABITAT

The Federación Panamericana de Asociaciones de Arquitectos (FPAA) is organising a series of encounters entitled "2021 Habitat Pan-American Perspectives Cycle: Reflections on Habitat”, from 6 to 10 December. Coordinated by the vice presidents of Federation's five regions and curated by Aldo Paul Ortega Molina (Mexico), former president of Federación de Colegios de Arquitectos de la República Mexicana (FCARM 2019-2020), each of the five round tables will focus on the theme of habitat in their specific  region.  The even will be broadcast live at 19:00 (URU) on FPAA’s YouTube channel, FPAA Arquitectura.
