Good morning Voornaam

The sun seemed to have made only the briefest appearance this week, with cooler weather descending on us. So put the kettle on, get a hot cup of whatever sets you up for the day, and we'll talk you through the biggest stories today so far.

Kicking off, the UK Government are considering a new nuclear reactor in Scotland, Alister Jack says.

"In a move that sparked a furious reaction from SNP and Green ranks, Scottish Secretary Alister Jack announced he has asked ministers at the Department for Energy and Net Zero (DESNZ) to plan for a nuclear reactor to be built in Scotland as part of a UK-wide programme."

Both governments have been at loggerheads over the issue in recent years, with politicians in Edinburgh refusing to back plans for a reactor north of the border.

Next up, orcas. Our Environmental Correspondent takes a deep dive (pun intended) into killer whales, the latest spate of attacks on yachts and what could be driving this behaviour.

"Sunday's encounter, in the Strait of Gibraltar, adds to almost 700 similar occurrences recorded in the Iberian region since May 2020. Only one similar incident is known to have happened in Scottish waters, which are commonly frequented by the iconic species."

A stage show paying tribute to the life and legacy of Sir Billy Connolly is in the running for multiple honours at Scotland’s theatre awards.

Described as “a love letter to The Big Yin," Dear Billy is one of the leading contenders in the shortlists for the Critics’ Awards for Theatre in Scotland.

Created by theatre-maker and performer Gary McNair, the show is based on memories of, and stories about, the legendary Scottish comic that have been collected in recent years.

Have an inspiring day
