The Sunday Round-Up

Greetings from hot and sunny Los Angeles! It certainly doesn't feel like it's Christmas outside but inside our house it sure does ... which is a good thing, especially after watching the news. It's getting scary in L.A. with hospitals over capacity and doctors on TV pleading with people to stay home. And then there's the news of a new COVID-19 strain in England. Much of the country, including London, is now on lockdown and now the Netherlands, Belgium and Italy just stopped U.K. flights from entering. Will the USA follow? My money is on yes.

The good news is that there’s a light at the end of the tunnel, thanks to the FDA approval of a second vaccine in a week. It can’t come soon enough but we just need to sit tight until they’re distributed. In the meantime, now is the perfect opportunity to plan your travels for 2021, including heeding my number one travel tip to save you money and headaches. I'm hoping my family and I can go on the flights I purchased with miles a few months ago for April but that might be a tad premature. Only time will tell but I'm staying optimistic and hopeful.

Natalie's Gift Ideas
Still doing some last-minute shopping? Check out great gift ideas for little ones below. And don't forget to browse these 14 great gifts for travelers that all clock in under $20. NOTE: Some items are eligible for pre-Christmas delivery for Prime members or based on your location.

-Mr. Willowby's Christmas Tree: A classic Christmas story recommended to us by a reader; our kids LOVE it!
-Bunchems: No toy has ever kept my son occupied and quiet for as long as this one. A perfect gift for any parent who needs a break.
-Kids Origami Kit: A fun and colorful way to teach kids (and adults!) beginner origami.
-Lego Dots Picture Frame: Once our son has designed his frame, I'll put a photo of his cousin from Toronto in it. He hasn't seen her in a year due to COVID and misses her terribly.
-4-pack Airplane Toys: These colorful foam airplanes are a huge hit with my four-year-old son.
-Little Blue Truck's Christmas: Our kids love the Little Blue Truck books, especially the Christmas one because the tree lights up on the last page.
-Candy Land: This board game was actually recommended by my son's pediatrician to help teach skills like listening to instructions, obeying rules and waiting your turn. In a fun way, of course!
-Surfer Dude: Seriously, the best beach toy for kids. Just like a boomerang, when you throw it into the ocean, it catches a wave and surfs right back to you.
-Leapfrog Educational DVD Pack: It's hard to limit screen time if you're working from home with kids. But at least they can watch something educational. Highly recommend these DVDs.
-Encyclopedia Britannica Electronic Reader: My mom gave this to my son for his birthday last year and he absolutely loves it. He can listen to the books all by himself and he just loves learning about animals.
