Consultation deadline:10 December 2023 The Health and Safety Executive (HSE), in its role as the Agency for UK REACH, with support from the Environment Agency, has published its final risk assessment opinion (.pdf). This follows a six-month public consultation last year and a six-month extension to consider the high volume of responses submitted, including many detailed and technical submissions. HSE has also opened a 60-day public consultation on the draft socio-economic opinion. Any comments that will help HSE and the Environment Agency with this draft opinion should be submitted here. The opinions have been reviewed by a Challenge Panel made up of independent experts from the REACH Independent Scientific Expert Pool (RISEP). The Agency also met stakeholders to listen to their concerns, gather evidence and discuss the proposals. After the responses to the 60-day consultation on the draft socio-economic opinion are considered, the Agency will send its final consolidated opinion to the Appropriate Authorities (i.e. the Defra Secretary of State and the Welsh and Scottish Governments). The Appropriate Authorities will then have three months to consider the proposals and decide if a restriction on lead in ammunition should be introduced. HSE is opening a call for evidence to support the evaluation of N-butylbenzenesulphonamide HSE is working with the Environment Agency to undertake a Substance Evaluation for N-butylbenzenesulphonamide (CAS No. 3622-84-2) which was added to the Rolling Action Plan earlier this year. The evaluation will assess the hazardous properties of this substance and its use profile in Great Britain (GB) to determine if any uses are creating a risk to human health and/or the environment. The evaluation will also consider whether further action is needed to manage any risks that are identified. To inform the evaluation, HSE is opening a 60-day call for evidence and invites interested parties to respond with general information and information on specific topics. HSE is particularly interested in: - use, exposure and disposal in GB
- manufacture and import; including in imported articles
- possible alternative substances and technologies
