UL economic development district gets House approval

Welcome to the Friday before Memorial Day edition of the Acadiana Business Newsletter. Let's get to the headlines....

Legislation to create an economic development district on University of Louisiana at Lafayette property, with an appointed board that could impose sales taxes without a vote of the public, drew opposition from some state lawmakers Thursday before winning final approval.

The UL president would appoint a governing authority that could collect sales taxes in the district to benefit the university, including building a performing arts center.
