• Another group of UMaine students last month filed papers to take over the UMaine College Republicans name while the previous club lacked official student organization status.
  
  The new group’s effort was a response to the series of campus controversies during the fall 2019 semester that escalated tensions between the university and a Republican student club that had come to focus mainly on bolstering President Donald Trump’s “America First” politics and bashing Democrats.

• Moosehead Lake’s rebounding brookie population continues to thrive. Just ask the folks catching ‘em. 

• “From a business standpoint there really isn’t anything else like this out there,” owner Jestin Merchant said. “I recognized the need in this area, that there should be a spot where people can come and support Trump and not feel like they’re strange or different because they do support the president.”

• Regina Long was the lone survivor in the shooting spree that killed three people in Machias and Jonesboro in early February.

• This spring, the city will construct a nearly half-mile paved trail that starts on the western edge of Eastern Maine Community College and wraps around the off-ramp of Interstate 95 before depositing riders and walkers on Stillwater Avenue.

• The Lakers had their quest for a state championship derailed last year by a Southern Aroostook team that won its second straight title. This season, it is the Warriors who again stand in the way but a senior-laden Greenville squad believes it has what it takes to hoist the gold ball.

• While there isn’t a magic formula for getting children to eat fruits and veggies, new research suggests modeling the behavior is a good start.
