At Technical.ly, Apple updates are firmly planted at the "Use sparingly" section of the coverage pyramid. But one of the latest changes feels like it has deeper implications for data and our digital lives.

 

With the latest update to iOS, which is the operating system for an iPhone, Apple is allowing users to opt out of data tracking in apps. Fittingly called App Tracking Transparency, this can be done by answering a prompt after updating to iOS 14.5.

 

The company says it's a move for privacy, but we're seeking insight from technologists who can understand a bit more about how this is built.
