Undefeated Minnesota Aurora's inaugural season continues into playoffs

It's playoff time for the inaugural season of the new, nationwide USL W women's soccer league. And one of those initial playoff matches will take place Wednesday in the Twin Cities.

That's because the Minnesota Aurora finished the regular season undefeated, and with more points than any of the more than 40 other teams in the league.

It's safe to say the Aurora are shining brightly in their first season — and are aiming for even greater success in the postseason.

"I knew, and I think everyone else knew, that we were going to make it great no matter what —and game by game we've proven our talent and we have proven that we are something to be seen and heard and talked about, and it's exciting to take this next opportunity into the playoffs," said Aurora defender Rachel Preston.

What else we're watching:
Where and how can THC products be sold in Minnesota? When Minnesota's new law allowing hemp-derived THC edibles kicked in July 1, a lot of people were surprised, including local leaders across the state. The law sets the rules for maximum legal dosages for edibles and beverages, packaging, warning labels and the age of purchase. But the law is mostly silent on the issue of how and where those products can be sold and under what circumstances.

AG rivals debate what it will take to fight crime. Events held hours apart allowed the incumbent and his GOP-endorsed rival to stake out their positions. Schultz put the emphasis on tougher penalties and more aggressive prosecution; Ellison said restricting access to guns would reduce violent crime.

Biden admin: Docs must offer abortion if mom's life at risk.  The Biden administration on Monday told hospitals that they “must” provide abortion services if the life of the mother is at risk, saying federal law on emergency treatment guidelines preempts state laws in jurisdictions that now ban the procedure without any exceptions following the Supreme Court's decision to end a constitutional right to abortion.

Some states are struggling to prepare for calls to the 988 mental health crisis line . More than 129 million people in the U.S. live in an area that lacks enough psychiatrists to appropriately cover the population. And the concern goes beyond psychiatrists. It can take months to get an appointment with a counselor or therapist. For people who need more intensive interventions, there's often no available placements in mental health facilities. So mental health experts say addressing mental health needs must go far beyond call center staffing to also include longer-term treatment options.
