Medical schools growing more diverse

Early during the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of medical school applicants rose 17.8%, according to Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC). While the number of applicants and first-year enrollees for the 2022-2023 school year has reverted to pre-pandemic levels, several traditionally underrepresented groups are seeing increases in first-year enrollees.

California appeals court: Physician was under investigation when privileges were surrendered

The California Court of Appeals (the “Court”) affirmed a trial court’s decision striking a physician’s complaint that a hospital falsely reported him to the National Practitioner Data Bank (NPDB), finding that the hospital’s actions were protected by the state’s anti-SLAPP (strategic lawsuit against public participation) statute.

The plaintiff, Gary R. Wisner, MD, filed a complaint alleging that Dignity Health St. Joseph’s Medical Center (the “Hospital”) falsely reported to the NPDB that he surrendered his clinical privileges while under investigation.
