Summa Health System’s emergency program at Akron (Ohio) City Hospital will lose its accreditation effective July 1, following the denial of an appeal from the ACGME. The emergency medicine program has 30 residents and Summa Health said it will help them find new training programs. Programs have historically evaluated trainees on the ACGME six core competencies and will continue to do so, but in a more robust way with the addition of Milestones. Milestones can be thought of as competency outcomes that provide more details to aid in effective curriculum development to meet board requirements.
