Understanding the significance of worldviewsWhy do you believe what you believe? The most common reason people will give for why they hold the beliefs they do is because those beliefs are true. If we didn’t think a belief was true, we wouldn’t believe it. We embrace this view because we intuitively adopt the correspondence theory of truth, which says that whether a belief or statement is true or false is determined by how it relates to the world and whether it accurately describes (i.e., corresponds with) reality. This Week in Washington, D.C.The Biden Administration renewed a 125,000 refugee cap following a letter sent last week from the ERLC and faith-based partner organizations. The news is welcomed as a sign of potential progress in rebuilding our country's refugee resettlement program, which has languished in recent years. As historic displacement continues around the world, the U.S. must be a place of refuge for those fleeing religious persecution. In fiscal year 2022, the United States has resettled just over 20,000 refugees despite a cap of 125,000. While the setting of the cap is an important action, it must be accompanied by additional investment in rebuilding the infrastructure of the program. The ERLC will continue to urge the administration and congress to invest the necessary resources to rebuild its resettlement infrastructure into the robust, nimble program that is needed to meet this moment. You can read more about this announcement and the ERLC’s advocacy here. Featured Podcasts On the ERLC Podcast, Brent and Lindsay discuss the devastation in Southwest Florida caused by Hurricane Ian and Southern Baptist’s disaster relief mobilization. They also talk about the need in Puerto Rico, the Jones Act waiver, and the Baptist cooperation that helped make that happen.
