Unemployment claims top 87,600 in week

The S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce said 87,686 people filed unemployment claims from April 5 to April 11. Greenville County saw 10,378 claims filed. DEW says it has processed 268,614 claims since March 14.

S.C. Ports cuts costs amid pandemic

The S.C. Ports Authority is cutting its costs by 10% to account for slowing container volumes amid the coronavirus pandemic. The port will not lay off any full-time staff and it does not anticipate any interruption in port operations.

USDA opens applications for grant

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has released a second application window for its Distance Learning and Telemedicine grant. An additional $25 million stemming from the recent Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act will be made available to applicants.
