Unemployment edges up to 4.6% in December 2020

Unemployment rose in every S.C county as the number of people working in the state dropped by more than 3,600 from November. From December 2019 to December 2020, South Carolina’s economy lost 53,200 seasonally adjusted nonfarm jobs.

Irmo biotechnology company receives $900,000 grant

Integrated Micro-Chromatography Systems Inc. will use the National Institutes of Health grant to research how gangliosides, biomolecules which play roles in therapeutic and diagnostic processes, affect neurological functions.

Southeastern Freight Lines recognized as top S.C. employer

The Lexington-headquartered company has been named the best employer in the state by personal finance website GOBankingRates. Southeastern was founded in 1950 in what is now its Columbia service center.
