Pinch, punch, first of the month..

Good afternoon and welcome to September.

It's a new start with many children back to school this week, posing issues for many parents with staggered school times.

Things are also changing on the furlough scheme, as the government starts to gradually withdraw its support - here's what you need to know.

Meanwhile tighter coronavirus restrictions remain in Preston.

From the newsdesk today, unions have slammed a decision to keep West View Leisure centre closed.

Plus an accident on the motorway has caused traffic problems this morning.

And bad news for holiday makers as Portugal may go back on the restricted list following a spike in cases.

As always, thanks for your support and don't forget to let us know if you have a story.

You can email me at nicola.adam@jpimedia.co.uk and tweet me@jabberingjourno

Regards, Nicola
