United Cajun Navy grows from humble roots in Louisiana

Slow but steady. From its humble beginnings as a fleet of flatboats and fishermen in shrimp boots, the United Cajun Navy now has an ever-growing network of chapters reaching as far as Hawaii and North Carolina with millions in funds to manage.

Staff writer Alena Maschke documents the triumphs and tribulations of the nonprofit, which is now building a headquarters at Baton Rouge Metro Airport.
