Honor killings, the cold-blooded murder of mostly girls and women by relatives for allegedly dishonoring their families, have arrived in the West. Some claim that anti-racism, pluralism, and multi-cultural relativism demand we tolerate such crimes, but that is a deeply mistaken belief. We’ll review the sources of this behavior and how to combat it.

Phyllis Chesler, Ph.D, is an Emerita Professor of Psychology and Women’s Studies at City University of New York. She is an analyst of gender issues in the Middle East, a psychotherapist and a feminist. She has published 18 books, and her articles have appeared in numerous publications, including the Middle East Quarterly, Encyclopedia Judaica, International Herald Tribune, National Review, New York Times, Times of London, Washington Post and Weekly Standard.

"How to Reform Middle East Studies at American Universities"

How does one confront the anti-Israel teachings and other problems that are entrenched in Middle East studies? Sarah Stern has worked this issue in the halls of Congress and the Department of Education for almost two decades. She will discuss changes for the better and worse in the attempt to ensure that federal grants are used in accordance with their legislative intent – to give American students a solid education about the regions.

Sarah N. Stern is Founder and President of the Endowment for Middle East Truth (EMET). She has been responsible for bringing to the attention of Congress many issues that have resulted in the successful passage of legislation, including the Koby Mandell Act, the Taylor Force Act, and amendments to Title VI of the Higher Education Act. Ms. Stern is also the author of two books.
