We are have a wonderful Winter - please keep up the support!
This is a follow up to our continued transformation, that started with your response to our survey and continues today with many changes made at the Arlington and DC locations.
Arthouse Movie Model Evolution
- We have reached an agreement with a Curator for selection of films. The curator will begin in April by shifting our selections of films to contain a larger number of Arthouse and Independent selections. We are on track for movie programming changes.
- We will continue with top box office family films in the early matinee time slot (even in the summer) as these are proving to be very popular.
Movie Events
After speaking with many theaters in the Arthouse community, we are going to significantly increase our movie events. These will be special screenings with some form of interactive or live attendance presentation. Examples include; inviting related experts, actors, directors, producers, etc to join for the screening and Q&A. We hope these events will become a common offering at the Arlington Drafthouse with at least three events a month dedicated to this form of entertainment.
Movie Concerts
This spring we will begin experimentation with screenings of concert films. More information to come.
Better Efficiency - Closing the Greenroom (Lobby Restaurant) March 1st
Many years ago we took over the restaurant next to us to use their kitchen to expand our food offering with two kitchens. However, running two kitchens has become too inefficient for our operations. We have consolidated our operations to run out of one kitchen and will be closing the Greenroom kitchen as of March 1st. We currently have another restaurant operator who has contracted to take over the space - so more information to come on a new awesome restaurant. The live comedy entertainment running out of the space will continue in our Downtown DC location after March 1st. The Arlington Cinema & Drafthouse will continue to operate as a full service restaurant and bar with table-side service.
Sketch and Improv Comedy Training Schools Launched
This month, we launched a
Sketch Comedy School and an Improv Comedy School out of our DC location and both of the initial classes have sold out! Congratulations to Stephen Hale (Artistic Director for the Sketch Program) and Topher Bellavia (Artistic Director for the Improv Program) for doing a great job getting us started. As these programs grow, we would like to offer classes based in Arlington too. Please let us know if you are interested. You can reach out to Stephen and Topher directly as well:
