Locked in during lockdown: Don’t smuggle your girlfriend in your trunk!

Every single country is taking its own approach to COVID-19 and societal lockdowns, but some might argue the regulations are a bit too harsh. Still, they’re being done out of an abundance of caution, with the goal of flattening the curve of infection and saving lives. One couple in South Africa, though, decided they’d had just about enough of this lockdown business.

With the woman locked in the trunk of the man’s car, the pair decided to take a trip out of Johannesburg despite rules preventing travel between provinces. Upon reaching a roadblock, authorities didn’t buy the man’s excuse for travel and demanded he open the trunk. To their surprise, the woman stepped out and declared she had “consented to being smuggled.” That didn’t help and the pair were both arrested and charged. Sometimes, it’s better not to say anything at all.

Shockingly, there are some people actually willing to spend the night in the trunk of a car.
