| Updates to the HPV Section of the Adult and Adolescent Opportunistic Infections Guidelines The Human Papillomavirus Disease (HPV) section of the Guidelines for the Prevention and Treatment of Opportunistic Infections in HIV-Infected Adults and Adolescents has been updated. The Panel updated the recommendation on HPV vaccination in females and males with HIV infection ages 13 to 26 years to the 9-valent HPV recombinant vaccine (0.5 ml at 0, 1 to 2, and 6 months) (AIII). For patients who have completed a vaccination series with the recombinant bivalent or quadrivalent vaccines, many experts would give an additional full series of the 9-valent recombinant vaccine (CIII).
December 1 is World AIDS Day December 1 marks the 30th anniversary of World AIDS Day, a day set aside each year to highlight worldwide efforts to combat HIV/AIDS, to show support for those living with HIV, and to remember those who have died from the infection. Despite much progress, HIV remains a global public health threat. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), in 2017, worldwide approximately 36.9 million people were living with HIV, an estimated 940,000 people died from AIDS-related illnesses, and about 1.8 million people were newly infected with HIV.
