Did you know that there is an awesome power in you that could do something unimaginable? Like recognizing and killing cancer cells or fighting the diseases of aging, even Alzheimer’s.
UPMC and the University of Pittsburgh are proud to announce the establishment of the UPMC Immune Transplant and Therapy Center. As part of this collaboration, we’ve brought our brightest minds in immunotherapy research together in the areas of organ transplantation, cancer, and chronic diseases of aging to collaborate, share ideas, and drive further development in this promising new frontier of medicine.
What is Immunotherapy?
Immunotherapy is the treatment of a disease by inducing, enhancing, or suppressing an immune response. Immunotherapy is not new. Experts at UPMC Hillman Cancer Center have used immunotherapy to treat cancer for years. However, we are now setting our sights on a new frontier — immune transplantation with the hope that our research will reduce, or possibly eliminate, the need for anti-rejection medication after a transplant.
Along with the University of Pittsburgh, we envision a day when Pittsburgh is the world's destination and knowledge leader for immune transplant and therapy.
