Dear John Do,
Some algae specimens are microscopically tiny while others can grow to over 40 metres in size. Plenty of research remains to be done into the aquatic plants, which are considered alternative protein or energy suppliers, said Dr Nils Wieczorek, research associate and group leader of "Bioeconomy and Bioresources" at the Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH). Together with two scientists, Wieczorek runs an algae cultivation facility in the south of Hamburg. In an interview with Hamburg News, the researchers talk about the opportunities for industry, urban microalgae production and knowledge transfer.
