Tomorrow, the Constitutional Affairs Committee of the European Parliament will cast a crucial vote on the future of the European Citizens’ Initiative (ECI). This is a great chance to achieve real improvements for more democracy in the EU – but we have to act NOW! Unconditional Basic Income Europe, together with other civil society organisations and former ECI organisers wrote an open letter to Members of the European Parliament (MEPs). We urge them to turn the ECI into a meaningful tool for citizens by committing themselves to vote on every single successful initiative in plenary. But it takes a little bit more than a letter to makes our voice heard and our demand count: Please take a few minutes today to make sure the next time we do an ECI to put basic income on the EU's agenda, it really ends up there! What can you do?
Write an email to the members of this committee from your country and ask them, in your own words, to vote in favour of bringing successful ECI proposals to the EP plenary! Or even better, give them a short call and let them know that you expect them to support this change! It's not difficult - just be polite, but clear on the phone. Pass this note on to your friends and ask them to take action as well.
Yours unconditionally,
The Board of Unconditional Basic Income Europe: Harald Enoksson, Dániel Fehér, Hilde Latour, Leire Rincón & Ulrich Schachtschneider
Support UBIE now!
UBIE relies entirely on volunteers, but we need to pay for our website, newsletter and other forms of communication. We also need to subsidise the travel of activists to our meetings and other events, to make sure we represent UBI movements throughout Europe. Please give what you can!
