Donald Trump has stunned European allies by opening Ukraine peace talks with Russia. The US President said yesterday he and Vladmir Putin had agreed to open talks to end Russia's war in Ukraine “immediately,” after his defence secretary said it was “unrealistic” that Ukraine's pre-2014 borders would be restored, writes Euractiv’s Alexandra Brzozowski.

One European NATO diplomat described new US red lines as akin to forcing Ukraine’s “preemptive surrender.”

Meanwhile, European foreign ministers and officials warned late last night that the future of Ukraine could not be decided without Europe or Kyiv after Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin agreed to "immediately" hold peace talks.

INTERVIEW. “The EU must be ‘strict’ and set ‘clear conditions’ with the pharmaceutical industry.” Euractiv’s Thomas Mangin sat down with Tilly Metz, the vice-president of the EP’s Health Committee, to learn about her priorities.
