Situational Analysis - April 29, 2021

It's Thursday and World Wish Day, a day established by the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Jersey Mike's Subs collected donations throughout March and just gave Make-A-Wish Utah a check for $200,000! Way to go, Jersey Mike's and everyone who donated!

News you need to know

  1. President Joe Biden addressed a joint session of Congress last night and laid out an ambitious agenda. Republicans weren't impressed.
  2. The address featured, for the first time, two women behind the president, and a very sparse, masked and socially-distanced audience. At least two Senators looked like they were sleeping. Or at least concentrating with their eyes closed: Mitt Romney and Ted Cruz.
  3. Michael Collins, the Apollo 11 command module pilot and first astronaut to orbit the far side of the moon alone, has died at age 90. He was called the "loneliest man in history" because of the time he spent on the far side, cut off from all human contact.
  4. The Utah Republican Party convention is this Saturday. A delegate has sponsored a resolution to censure Senator Romney for his vote on impeachment. Multiple elected officials have also endorsed a variety of candidates as they jockey for position. Stay tuned.
  5. Derek Miller writes that unity is impossible without diversity. What a beautiful concept.
