images/articles/county-revenue.jpgGuest opinion: Why I support Utah County Proposition 9
By Rod Mann, Mayor of Highland City
If passed, Proposition 9 will change the form of government in Utah County from a three-member commission to five council members and a mayor. Each council member will represent one of five districts in the county while the mayor will be elected by the entire county. Over the last year and a half, I have participated in many discussions on the pros and cons of switching from a three-member commission to an executive-council form of government. I have also researched the issue independently and find myself a strong supporter of Utah County Proposition 9.

By LaVarr Webb
Monday Musing. In 2020, in the era of social media, can you win a campaign with TV ads? Conventional wisdom says TV advertising isn't as effective as in the past. But that hasn't stopped Ben McAdams and Burgess Owens from carpet bombing TV viewers with saturation negative advertising. Lots of people are so sick of the nasty ads aired by both campaigns and their allied PACs and congressional committees that they instantly switch channels when an ad comes on. The TV ads on both sides have reached the point of oversaturation and overkill.

By Kael Weston
I am often asked why I decided to run for Congress. I believed 2020 was always going to be a referendum on Donald Trump on Trumpism as a whole and Trumpists in particular. All those politicians who have facilitated Donald Trump's policies of division and demeaning personal conduct toward our international allies and individual Americans via his Twitter feed and corrosive public comments.

images/Logos/southerland-institute-logo.pngWill Utah's new COVID-19 game plan work?
In last week's briefing for the public about the coronavirus pandemic, the governor and state health officials announced a revised plan to help bring the current spike in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations under control. But how effective will the new system be? The answer to that question will be driven by public awareness of the plan, a willingness to follow it, and our knowledge of COVID-19.
Stewart's National Suicide Hotline Designation Act becomes law
WASHINGTON, D.C. Pres. Donald Trump has signed Rep. Chris Stewart's (UT-02) National Suicide Hotline Designation Act into law. Following the President's signing, Rep. Stewart issued the following statement: "Today's signing is the culmination of years of work by many. What started as a Utah-based initiative, led by Rep. Steve Eliason and Utah State Sen. Daniel Thatcher, has now become a reality. Being able to quickly dial 9-8-8 in a mental health crisis will give Americans a much-needed resource to help reverse the tragic trend of suicide. I am grateful to President Trump for prioritizing mental health and signing this bill into law in a timely manner. This is a great day for Utah and a great day for our country. " Rep. Chris Stewart
