It's Thursday and the weather is, well, not welcoming. But we need the water, right? Normally, today would be tax day, but you get another month this year. Phew!

News you need to know

  1. Bernie Madoff, who operated the largest Ponzi scheme in history, died in prison yesterday. He was 82.
  2. Kim Potter, the former officer who shot and killed Daunte White, has been arrested and charged with 2nd-degree manslaughter.
  3. GOP Rep. Kevin Brady of Texas-the former House Ways & Means Committee chairman who led the push for Trump's 2017 tax cuts-announced Wednesday he will not seek a 14th term in 2022.
  4. The Deseret News has restructured ther leadership team and Robin Ritch takes the helm, the first woman to do so in the company's 171-year history.
  5. President Joe Biden will (finally!) address a joint session of Congress on April 28.

U.S. Senators Mitt Romney (R-UT) and Michael Bennet (D-CO) with Congressmen John Curtis (R-UT) and John Garamendi (D-CA) today introduced the bipartisan, bicameral Making Access to Cleanup Happen (MATCH) Act, legislation to expedite disaster cleanup, save taxpayers money, and prevent further disasters. The MATCH Act was first introduced last Congress.

Today, Congressman Blake Moore (UT-01) introduced the Forest TECH Improvement Act to create a five-year pilot program to study and accelerate the deployment and integration of advanced technologies, such as drones, for reforestation activities. This will enable us to meet our national goals under the Trillion Trees Initiative, which seeks to plant and conserve one trillion trees by 2030. According to a study published in Science Magazine, meeting this goal would sequester 205 gigatons of carbon, or about two-thirds of all manmade emissions in the atmosphere today.
