Jon Huntsman raised $3.426 million $3.426 million in his run for the Republican gubernatorial nomination this year -- an effort that ended June 30 with a 1 percentage-point loss to Lt. Gov. Spencer Cox. Cox himself has so far this campaign season -- remember he started running for the job to succeed his boss, Gov. Gary Herbert, way back in June 2019 -- raised $3.3 million as of new filings. He spent $2.8 million and has $500,000 in cash as he heads into the final month of campaigning. Rudy takes on ChinaBy LaVarr Webb I heard pollster and political analyst Frank Luntz speak (remotely) on Wednesday at a Salt Lake Chamber event. It was the day after the recent presidential debate, and Luntz was quite pessimistic about the leadership of the country. He was appalled at the behavior of Trump and Biden during the debate and worried about what the insults and name-calling taught the country's young people about civility, decency and respect. "Democracy was just shattered," he said.  Change of pace: Like barking dogs? I doBy LaVarr Webb In most circumstances, being awakened at night by a barking dog is a major nuisance. But when I hear a dog barking in the middle of the night, it's rather reassuring. It's good to know the dogs are out there, keeping watch. We live in the northwest corner of Box Elder County, a very remote part of Utah, 35 miles west of Snowville, six miles off the closest paved highway.
